牛津在线词典新收入1000个俚语

The latest slang phrases added to OxfordDictionaries.com have been revealed - reflecting evolving cultural, political and social norms.

Hangry (angry due to hunger), manspreading (encroaching on a neighbouring seat) and rando (a stranger acting oddly) are among the 1,000 new words.

Snackable (an easy read) and mkay (OK), joined the online dictionary after gaining widespread use, along with beer o'clock, bants, awesomesauce and bruh.

Editor Fiona McPherson said: "It's not about dumbing down, it's more creative ways people are using language."

New to the dictionary:

awesomesauce, adj:(US informal) extremely good; excellent

bants (also bantz), pl. n:(Brit informal) playfully teasing remarks exchanged; banter

beer o'clock, n: an appropriate time of day to start drinking beer (likewise wine o'clock)

brain fart, n: (informal) a temporary mental lapse or failure to reason correctly

bruh, n: (US informal) a male friend (often used as a form of address)

fatberg, n: a very large mass of solid waste in a sewerage system, consisting of congealed fat and personal hygiene products flushed down loos

fur baby, n: a person's dog, cat or other furry pet

Grexit, n: the potential withdrawal of Greece from the eurozone

mx, n: a title used by those who wish to avoid specifying their gender

pocket dial, v: inadvertently call someone on a phone in one's pocket

weak sauce, n: (US informal) something of a poor or disappointing standard or quality
