Chinanews, Zhengzhou, May 28 – A recent survey shows that the children of Chinese migrant workers, who were mostly born in the 1980s, do not set making money as their most important goal when going out to work. Instead, most young people, when going outside their hometown, want either to gain more experiences or seek after some fun outside, the Henan Daily reported.“I hate people who call me a migrant worker. Some companies divide people into several classes and discriminate against us. Many of my friends leave their companies since they don’t want to be unfairly treated,” said Cheng Xiaoqin, who now works as a head waiter in a hotel. If anyone mentions the word “migrant worker”, Cheng will give an uncomfortable look on his face.Through interviews this reporter has found that the children of migrant workers have different goals from their parents. They don’t work for buying a house or setting up a family. Instead, they want more to settle in cities and be respected by people around them. They want to be integrated into urban life and shake off the image as migrant workers. They no longer treat themselves as city’s outsiders. Rather, they want to start their own business in the new environment.Different from their parents, young migrant workers do not regard themselves merely as bread winners. They try to find better opportunities and express their own feeling about life. This reporter had communicated with a dozen of migrant children. Only two of the interviewees said after earning some money, they would consider going back to their hometown to start their own business. Most of the young migrant workers said they didn’t have any plans to go back.Li Rui is a young migrant worker who now works in a small decoration shop in Fengchan Road in Zhengzhou of Henan Province.“I dont’ set making money as my top priority goal. In fact, I work in this shop in order to gain more business experiences so that one day, I might open my own shop. Hopefully, I can realize my goal before 25 years old,” Li said.Another young migrant worker, Tian Xueyan, works in a hairdresser’s. Tian also wants to become a boss one day.“Right now, I’m still an apprentice. I hope that some day, I can go to a school to learn image design. I know that the first two years might be hard. But once you manage to go through this hard time, you can start you own business,” Tian said.
