Chinanews, Beijing,January 6 – After 5 days of labor, the archaeologists finally undressed the 2,800-year-old mummy excavated in Turpan, and its clothes and other objects found in its tomb will present detailed information about Turpan at that period, especially in the perspective of clothing. The mummy was unearthed in 2003, and it was one of several hundred mummies found in Yanghai Ancient Graveyard. It must be a shaman's mummy, judging from its exquisite clothes, and the delicate shamanist priest's staff found in the tomb. The mummy wears a woolen piece, like a cape, but unlike ordinary capes. The woolen piece is tube-shaped, wrapping its upper body. There are three stripes embroidered on its woolen trousers, which feature makes it distinct from the other mummies in the graveyard. The yellowish brown waistbelt of the mummy, adorned with several tiny triangles, is really a piece of art, and clearly reflects the advanced woolen spinning technology at that time.
