Chinanews, Beijing, March 12 - According to China Securities Journal, the number of telephone subscribers in China has reached 840 million, and will exceed 1 billion before 2010, said Wei Jun, Deputy Director-General, Comprehensive Planning Department of Ministry of Information Industry, at China Semi-conductors Annual Conference held in Shanghai recently.He indicated that, with the rapid development of information industry, the number of Chinese telephone users has been increasing at a speed of 10 million every year, 60% of which are mobile phone users.He said the general objective set by the 11th Five-Year Plan is that the number of Chinese telephone users will reach 1 billion; and the gross revenue of information industry of China will reach 10 trillion, which will account for 10% of the country's GDP.Wei also said that making telephone service accessible to all villages has been what our country has been promoting, and it had already covered 97% of China's villages by 2005, and 98.9% by 2006.
